Managing Family Finances
Starting a family is hard. Managing family finances, managing your time with your spouse, moving in with a spouse, etc. Managing a family isn't easy on your finances, but it has some advantages. Whatever age you decide to start a family is your choice. Some people decide to start at a very early age. The average age for first marriages is 27 for men and 25 for women. If you decide to marry at an early age you must evaluate the financial situation you will be in. Many of the benefits you will receive for being married are from your employers. These benefits include: * Health and Life Insurance benefits * Pension Plan benefits * Social Security benefits
There are also many tax advantages you can receive when you get married. These benefits usually are related to when you buy or rent a house and live together with your spouse. Some of these benefits remain the same if you are NOT married. However, if you are not married, your employer will not include any of the above benefits that I mentioned. Sometimes, moving in with your significant other BEFORE getting married has it's advantages. You get a sense of if it will work out before you get married so you don't risk a divorce within 2 or 3 years. If you are saving money to pay off loans or to have a down payment on a house, you may want to just move in as opposed to getting married because you will be able to set all your finances straight before taking the plunge.
